A Typical Day
We organise our sessions so that the children can choose from, and work at, a range of activities and, in doing so, build up their ability to select and work through a task to its completion.
The children are also helped and encouraged to take part in adult-led small and larger group activities which introduce them to new experiences and help them to gain new skills, as well as helping them to learn to work with others, in a language rich environment.
Outdoor activities contribute to children’s health, their physical development, and their knowledge of the world around them. The children have the opportunity, and are encouraged, to take part in outdoor child-chosen and adult-led activities, as well as those provided indoors. We also run Forest School sessions twice a week and try to ensure all children will have the opportunity to attend at least one term of sessions before they leave to go to school.
Additional activities run for 45 minutes every afternoon. These are run by outside agencies for a small fee and are supported by our staff. We offer the children the opportunity to take part in: StagePlus Dance, Sign & Rhyme, AMA Soccer, Pre-school Disco and Playball. All these activity sessions are tailored for the ages of the children taking part. Children in receipt of EYPP (Early Years Pupil Premium) will receive up to three of these sessions per week at no cost.
When possible, we also give the children the opportunity to experience life cycles such as egg incubation and hatching, caterpillars to butterflies and frogspawn to frogs. Zoolab are also a regular visitor to our setting.
Settling In
We want your child to feel happy and safe with us. To make sure that this is the case, the staff will work with you to decide on how to help your child to settle into the setting. Please see our Settling in Policy as well as our dedicated Policy on Settling in 2-year-olds and younger.
Our setting uses a key person approach. This means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom she/he is particularly responsible. Your child’s key person will be the person who works with you to make sure that what we provide is right for your child’s particular needs and interests. When your child first starts at the setting, she/he will help your child to settle and throughout your child’s time at the setting, she/he will help your child to benefit from the setting’s activities. All our staff are trained to work with our very young as well as the older children. We try to maintain the same key person throughout your child’s time at our setting.

Curriculum
The provision for children’s development and learning is guided by The Early Years Foundation Stage (DfE 2021). Our provision reflects the four guiding themes and principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
